The FDA first looked at GranuFlo in May 2012, letting doctors know they need to monitor patients much more carefully because when not dosed properly, has a high probability of causing a heart attack. While it is designed to help patients with kidney failure, when dosed in excess amounts causes mass amounts of alkaline to form in the blood, which can lead to metabolic alkalosis, and other serious side effects, even death.
